Contemporary Folklore

A collection of large scale paintings exploring ways of storytelling and how history and folklore inform contemporary art. Inspired by a Bulgarian folktale; The Three Brothers and the Golden Apple. The paintings explore the role and representation of female characters in Bulgarian folklore, by adapting the story through symbolism and a new perspective for the paintings collectively as well as individually. While the paintings have their own feminist connotations, they are be open to interpretation when looked at individually, however when displayed together they will suggest the narrative of the folktale that inspired it.
